The vision for relief in Nepal is two-fold:
Model the love of Christ by giving and loving freely.
Speak the truth of the Gospel Boldly.
It is important to understand that Nepal is a closed country; meaning the gospel is not welcome at the governmental level, and it is illegal for a foreigner to share the gospel. We MUST be careful how we mix relief and the gospel to protect our national ministry workers, missionaries, and leaders. However, with that said, we need to be unashamed of the gospel and look for the Spirit to lead in regard to evangelism.
We will work hand in hand with the Calvary Chapel Bible College/Salvation Worship leadership team and the Bible college students. We have selected villages that we have direct connections through the students who have been directly affected by the earthquake.
Theme verses for Nepal Relief:
“My little children, let us not love in word or in tongue, but in deed and in truth.” 1 John 3:18
“And when they had summoned them, they commanded them not to speak or teach at all in the Name of Jesus. But Peter and John answered and said to them, ‘Whether it is right in the sight of God to give heed to you rather than God, you be the judge; for we cannot stop speaking about what we have seen and heard.” Acts 4:18-19
Short-Term Vision (2-6 months)
To provide relief for the people of Nepal affected by the earthquakes through the following:
Shelter: providing and constructing temporary shelters (including emergency shelter kits and tents)
Food Relief: supplying rice, dal, oil, salt, and seed for local villages for a 4-month period of time until they can harvest their corn and barley crops.
Medical: provide free general care for the members of the selected villages. Including health care education.
Outreach: will include hut-to-hut evangelism, VBS and children’s programs, discipleship of local believers, and the teaching of God’s Word.
Orphanage: establish a Promise Child Orphanage in Kathmandu fulfilling James 1:27. This will include funding a facility, securing a building, painting, furnishing, facility repairs and upgrades, selecting house parents, identifying which children to admit, and developing a long-term plan of care. The overall cost of caring for the children will be done via child sponsorship through Promise Child. (promisechild.org)
Construction: rebuilding broken homes, schools, and churches. Our plan is to build indigenously by hiring local village contractors who will work side by side with our mission teams. In each village, local leaders will identify the priority of building; focusing on widows, the elderly, and greatest needs. Construction will include demo of existing condemned buildings, salvaging reusable materials, and the building of single family homes.
Christian Community Development: evangelism, discipleship of local believers, pastoral and leader training, working side-by-side with established, local, like minded, Bible believing, gospel preaching churches. There are churches established in each village that we will be working with.
Orphanage: provide food, clothing, education, housing for orphans. The focus will be bringing children who have lost parents in the mountainous areas of Nepal to the children's home in Kathmandu. Initial funding will come from relief, while monthly sustainability will come from child sponsorship through Promise Child. (promisechild.org)
Bible College/Salvation Worship/CC Kathmandu: continue to develop local leaders through Calvary Chapel style ministry. Pastors, worship leaders, ministry leaders are all welcome at the facility to teach God’s Word, assist in outreach, and teach worship theory on a rotating basis. Semester schedule and vision is located on the Bible College website. (ccbcnepal.com)
Food Relief: look at developing and assisting ongoing local agriculture.
As you can see, the harvest is plentiful, but the laborers are few. Pray that the Lord would send laborers into this harvest!
We are ready to begin facilitating teams immediately (team inquiry form is below). If you are interested in sending a team or individuals for a short-term trip, please see the attachments below.
On behalf of the entire assessment team, Calvary Chapel Kathmandu, Salvation Worship Ministries, and Promise Child, we have been overwhelmed by the outpouring of support by the church in America. We are grateful for the doors the Lord has opened for ministry here, and we are looking forward to the ongoing fruit that this will bring for the kingdom of God.
